Slow Research Academy › Uber › Unit 3 “Competition”, lesson 1
Start with the battlefield: U.S. rides and U.S. delivery are two different positions
This unit asks: Where does Uber compete, against whom, and how does its position differ?
Rides and delivery, the U.S. and international markets are different battlefields with different rivals. The two businesses are about the same size, so the two positions each cover about half of Uber's business, and the biggest rival in rides is the private car.
On a New York street you can see ride-hailing cars taking Uber orders and delivery couriers in DoorDash jackets.
In the U.S., Uber's ride and delivery businesses meet two different sets of rivals.
Outside the U.S., the rivals change again.
Rides and delivery are different battlefields, each with its own main rivals
Before looking at competition, separate the battlefields. Uber runs both Mobility and Delivery, and in each region the two businesses face different rivals.
