Cross-company comparisons: align revenue presentation, profit scope and expense coverage
This unit asks: Where does Uber compete, against whom, and how does its position differ?
Changing presentation alone leaves profit unchanged, but cross-company revenue ratios, segment profit and group expenses have different scopes. Shared systems offer cost spreading, not direct proof of Delivery efficiency.
A common claim is that Uber takes 30% of every fare.
That 30% comes from Uber's annual report: Mobility revenue divided by Mobility Gross Bookings was 30.4% in 2025.
Before comparing it with another platform's figure, look at how each company records its sales.
Changing presentation alone changes the revenue ratio, not profit
Unit 1, Lesson 1 explained that gross presentation records the rider's full payment as revenue and payments to drivers and others as costs; net presentation records only the service fee.
